Jay County's Huey and Zorn To Wrestle For State Titles

Two Jay County Wrestlers Kyndal Huey (106) and Jade Zorn (113) will rmake school history when they wrestle in the first Indiana (IHSGW) Girls Wrestling State Finals, which was suppose to be on the 13th, has been postponed until 01-20-2017 due to inclement weather being forecast, the event will remain at Hamilton Heights. The championship is not an IHSAA sanctioned event, but officials hope that in the near future it will be.

Huey picked up a 106lb Regional title at Rochester last Friday, will Zorn finished fourth at a 113, both qualify for tonight's State Championships.

Qualifications were held at two Regionals, both held last Friday (6th) and split into North and South - South of I-70- was held at Franklin and North of I-70 was in Rochester.

To be eligible all wrestlers must be a member of an IHSAA sanctioned boys high school wrestling team.

The following weight classes are being used: 88, 98, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 198, 220, 285.

How important is girls wrestling? According to a tribstar.com story it is an important night for wrestling.

"Really, women's wrestling could save the sport so to speak. I think it's great. It's good for the sport. Giving more kids more opportunities and hopefully it can continue to grow where it could be a separate girls team,. I feel bad for the girls sometimes that have to wrestle the guys. There's still a disadvantage and sometimes you feel bad for guys because you're raised to be kind and gentle to women and then go out and beat them. It's great if it grows and more girls get interested."

1991 Ohio High School Regional Championship basketball game. Last second shot by Jill Froning for unranked Celina wins the game over Ohio's #1 rated Pickerington (were also rated in USA Today Top 5)...Celina went on to win the Ohio D1 State Championsip game. Game was played at Bellefontaine HS, Dave Schmidt doing the play-by-by for Celina Cable TV.
